Our Lady of Lourdes students raise funds for local food bank (4 photos)

Annual Christmas Food Bank campaign featured posters and videos shared through social media

Students at Our Lady of Lourdes French Immersion School have been busy leading up to Christmas by holding a campaign to raise money for the local food bank.

The effort took in $127 for the food bank with members of the school God Squad, along with the Grade 3/4 class, making posters and mini commercials to spread the word. The posters were displayed around the school and the videos were shared on to Facebook and Instagram, said vice principal Nadia Zanatta.

“This initiative is an example of connecting the classroom, curriculum, and community, understanding how they all relate to each other,” she told ElliotLakeToday.

“Actively participating is a living example of this year’s theme of Catholic Education - Nurturing Hope. The students were very proud of their efforts because they understood the importance of helping others in need. It is important to recognize our young leading flames,” she added. “To show our appreciation and to help boost donations, any families who made an online donation to the food bank will receive a baking tray, with compliments from the school, prepared by Foodland to enjoy together during the live performance of our virtual Christmas Concert tomorrow (Wednesday) evening."

“Like many challenges we have faced during these unprecedented times, our annual Christmas Food Bank campaign needed a different twist to make it happen," said principal Stephane Prevost. "Unlike our regular food drive, our families are also able to reap from their own generosity of giving. It is also our way to thank our parent group for their on-going efforts and support.”
