Thursday saw many children with their bikes lined up for the annual Elliot Lake OPP bike rodeo, which has been on hold for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is a long-standing event that has been going on for years,” Community safety officer Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Constable Phil Young said. “It’s a great collaboration between the City of Elliot Lake, Algoma Public Health and the OPP which benefits kids of various ages in relation to bicycle safety.”
All the children involved were visibly enjoying the experience.
Also on hand to assist the cyclists with minor repairs was Jack’s Bike Shop, and the 108 Sports and Leisure store.
Participants learned about proper bike signalling and went through a course, which had regular signage found on streets, and instructions on how to read them.
“We’re so excited about having it again and making sure this continues to be an annual event,” Const. Young added.
He was assisted with the event by his counterpart from the Blind River detachment, Constable Bev Gauthier and Cadet Mathieu Boivin.
The event was held at the Collins Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
