Two new wildfires were confirmed in northeastern Ontario since last night, according to Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services, although both were small and one is now out.

While the fire hazard was described as low to moderate across the northeast, there are areas with a high fire hazard east of Marathon, Sault Ste. Marie, Michipicoten River, Chapleau and Espanola, the AFFES said.

In the meantime, there remain just three active wildfires in northeastern Ontario as the end of the fire season approaches.

AFFES said there was one new wildland fire confirmed in the region after Wednesday night’s update.

Sudbury 51 is a 0.6 hectare fire about 250 meters west of Basson Lake and is under control. The small lake is southwest of Subury, just north of Killarney Provincial Park.

A new wildland fire confirmed Thursday was Bancroft 8, a 0.1 hectare fire that is now out. The fire was on a peninsula at the north end of Drizzle Lake.

Of the three active wildland fires in the northeast, one is being held and two are under control.
