No injuries in garage fire on Beckett Boulevard

Fire Chief John Thomas announced today that on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025 at 2:19 a.m., the Elliot Lake Fire Department received a call for a fire at a residential address on Beckett Boulevard.

Fire department crew arrived on scene at 2:27 a.m. and reported heavy smoke and flames visible from the attached garage. Firefighters worked to contain the fire and it was under control at approximately 4:14 a.m.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation. There were no injuries and the estimated dollar loss is $250,000. Crews will remain on site until the scene is clear.

Fire Chief John Thomas would like to remind the public that:

  1. Every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas - it’s the law.
  2. It is recommended that you test the alarms once a month and replace the batteries at least once a year.
