Preliminary installation of a 50 meter boat pier at Elliot Lake’s municipal boardwalk and boat launch is complete with pier set to open today at 3 p.m., city Economic Development Coordinator Ashten Vlahovich said.

“The new fishing pier is installed and is temporarily open for public use,” she said. “Additional finishing work will be completed in July, but the pier is safe and operational.”

“The boardwalk and new pier are meant to be enjoyed by all for recreational use but not intended as a swimming platform or boat dock. Swimming or anchoring boats to the pier is prohibited. The City appreciates the public’s cooperation in regards to acceptable uses,” Vlahovich added.

The pier installation is the first portion of Phase 2 of the project. Periodic closures throughout the summer months will be required as other portions are installed, including shade sails, the boat launch docks and marina slip style docking. The City appreciates the cooperation of the public with respect to the temporary closures and is looking forward to the completion of Phase 2 this summer.
