CITY OF ELLIOT LAKE

St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL), the City of Elliot Lake, and the Elliot Lake Physician Recruitment Committee, are pleased to announce the signing of a new Emergency Department (ED) physician: Dr. Helene Bouchard.
With hospital EDs across Ontario reporting 158 closures in the past year, SJGHEL and the Elliot Lake Physician Recruitment Committee believe that this is a big leap forward in providing our community with 24/7 health care.
“It was such an easy decision for me to choose to practice here and be part of this great community once again,” said Dr. Bouchard who will be in the ED starting July of this year. “I have close family members, dear friends, have done part of my residency at SJGHEL, and lived here as a child.”
Dr. Bouchard is a recent graduate of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University specializing in rural emergency medicine, is a proud French Canadian, and is offering bilingual services here at SJGHEL. Dr. Bouchard also graduated from the Royal Military College with a mechanical engineering degree and served for 14 years as an Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces.
After her tenure in the Armed Forces, she continued her education by getting a master’s degree in education from the University of Québec. Dr. Bouchard is an avid athlete that participates in numerous sports and enjoys her days off with her partner and four children.
SJGHEL is pleased to have Dr. Bouchard as an ED physician. CEO Jeremy Stevenson says, “I can’t express my gratitude enough to the City of Elliot Lake, the town of Spanish, and Elliot Lake Retirement Living for collaborating to find solutions together and securing Dr. Bouchard as an ED physician. We are excited to welcome Dr. Bouchard, she is a skilled and compassionate physician, who will be instrumental in keeping our ED open.”
SJGHEL welcomes Dr. Bouchard back to the city of Elliot Lake and part of our amazing and growing local physician group. Dr. Bouchard will be working in the ED.
