The Alzheimer Society Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District is lending its support to an upcoming training opportunity on music therapy.
The afternoon session will be held on Sept. 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 9 Oakland Blvd. in Elliot Lake, according to Alzheimer outreach coordinator Tanya Harrision.
The workshop is being put on by facilitator Jim Arnold, former director of the Society for the Arts in Dementia Care, a certified geriatric wellness instructor, music educator, performing musician and a frequent speaker at conferences on the topic of music in therapeutic recreation.
Arnold is a member of the Music Therapy Association of Ontario and the Ontario Music Educators Association. He teaches music in therapeutic recreation at Niagara College and is the founder of the Creative Enrichment Group – a division of Folklore Music.
The workshop is geared to teachers in special education, therapist program facilitators, longterm care staff, caregivers and musicians. Although no experience is required, participants will receive a certificate following the end of the workshop.
Anyone interested in attending can register with Arnold by email at [email protected], by phone at 905-819-4789, or by text at 416-806-6870.
