A fire at 147 Mississauga Ave. on Monday, May 31, 2021 caused approximately $125,000 in damages and sent one person to hospital

Fire Chief John Thomas announced today that on Monday, May 31, 2021 at 21:08 hours, the Elliot Lake Fire Department received a call for a working fire at the apartment complex at 147 Mississauga Ave.

Upon arrival on scene, the fire department crew reported smoke and flames coming from an apartment window. Firefighters rescued one occupant who was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for smoke inhalation. Crews quickly knocked down the fire and damage was contained to one unit. Estimated damage was $125,000.

Due to injuries of occupant, the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office was notified and will be conducting the investigation into the cause of the fire.

Fire Chief John Thomas would like to remind the public that every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every story and outside all sleeping areas.
