The boys and girls volleyball teams from Our Lady of Lourdes French Immersion Catholic School in Elliot Lake captured individual championships in the North Shore Volleyball tournament held on Dec. 12 at the gymnasiums at Elliot Lake Secondary School (ELSS) and Vanier school.

Elementary schools from Elliot Lake, as well as one team from Blind River, took part in the tournament.

“Our Lady of Lourdes girls won a very competitive volleyball tournament,” girls coach Vince Ucci said. “They overcame adversity and an injury to one of their best players for a true team victory.”

Jenn Smith, coach of the boys team also credited the team for its championship performance.

“The day was a huge success. Everyone played hard, but more importantly, had a great time,” she said. “Congratulations to all the teams and organizers for a great tournament.”

“I’m so proud of these students,” Lourdes vice-principal Nadia Zanatta. “They continue to represent Our Lady of Lourdes with pride and honor. Les flammes sont fantastique.”

Both teams captured two championships this year: East District, within HSCDSB’s east schools, as well as the North Shore community tournament.
