The City of Elliot Lake has decided to reopen its landfill to both commercial users and the public.
In a news release today, the city says it appreciates the community's patience while staff carried out operational assessments relating to excess groundwater.
The landfill reopened at 10 a.m. but the public is encouraged to be careful at the facility as construction activities continue.
Staff members are on-site directing traffic where needed and the city requests drivers be alert to them and follow their directions.
The landfill was closed suddenly, yesterday, due to safety concerns about the direction of leachate from the dump.
Acting mayor Andrew Wannan told ElliotLakeToday the city didn't want to risk people driving through flood waters and runoff until they figured out where it was coming from.
