Kyle Bobiwash is an associate professor at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and the first Indigenous university graduate in that faculty.
After completing his secondary school education at ÉSC Jeunesse-Nord, Kyle enrolled at Ottawa University in biomedical sciences, where his major thesis was in biology.
He then enrolled at Brock University’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute and, motivated by this experience, completed an M.Sc. at McGill University. Subsequently, he earned his Ph.D. at Simon Fraser University before moving to the University of Manitoba.
“My science teachers at ÉSC Jeunesse-Nord were highly committed and encouraged my passion for science. Since the school itself was small, there were few students in the grades 11 and 12 pre-university courses, which made it possible for us to work in teams and to freely share information between students and teachers. The setup there allowed me to develop more freely, which helped to steer me to a slightly different field,” says Kyle Bobiwash.
