The Blind River Figure Skating Club is in the process of planning a July Community Parade set for July 9, council was told at its virtual meeting Monday.

Club organizer Summer Jamieson was seeking council support to hold the parade and begin planning for the event. The club also organized the successful Santa Claus Parade last November amid strict COVID restrictions.

Summer’s request was contained in a report from the town’s Director of Facilities and Community Services Karen Bittner.

The parade will run based on any restrictions that may be in place on July 9.

“The Blind River Figure Skating Club, as well as municipal staff fully understand that this event request is subject to any regulations imposed by The Province of Ontario or Algoma Public Health,” Bittner stated in her report. “Organizers are prepared to host this initiative in the format permitted.”

It is expected the parade route will start from the fire hall, but a formal road closure request will come from the club when planning is complete.

Council gave its support for the parade to allow the club to get the planning process underway.
