A provincial investigation is ongoing into the Sept. 29 death of worker at IAMGOLD’s Côté Gold mine construction site is continuing.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, said two orders were issued to IAMGOLD, and two orders and two requirements were issued to the individual’s employer, Moreau.

According to an earlier IAMGOLD news release, the deceased individual had been found unconscious near the workers accommodation complex on the morning of Sept. 29. Attempts to revive the individual were unsuccessful.

IAMGOLD said the individual was not on shift or engaged in any mining or constructed-related work.

“As the ministry’s investigation is ongoing, we are not able to provide further information at this time,” the ministry spokesperson said by email.

The identity of the individual was not released.

The mine, which is under construction, is located near the town of Gogama, about halfway between Sudbury and Timmins,

The open-pit mine project is nearing completion with first gold pour scheduled in early 2024.
