Data acquired by unauthorized individuals during Rainbow District School Board’s recent cyber incident “was deleted and has not been shared,” according to an update on the situation from the school board.
The school board also said in the Feb. 28 statement that three weeks after the cyber incident, which meant internet was unavailable in its schools for several days in February, “all of our critical systems are restored.”
You can read in full the board’s latest statement, which includes a recap of the cyber incident, on its website.
Last week, the Rainbow board confirmed that a variety of sensitive data was stolen, even including school photos, and those affected include current and former employees, students, parents and guardians going back as far as 2010.
But the board now says that information was deleted.
“Rainbow District School Board has since received confirmation that the data acquired by the unauthorized individuals was deleted and has not been shared,” said the statement from the board.
The school board also said it would like to thank former employees and graduates who emailed the board with enquiries and address changes.
It said Rainbow continues to answer email at [email protected].
The board also continues to work with experts to monitor and maintain the network’s security.
“Rainbow District School Board would also like to thank staff, students, parents/guardians, the media and the community for their patience and understanding as we responded to this cyber incident,” the statement said.
