St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL) regrets to inform the public that our acute care hospital third floor Med-Surg unit is currently in an Influenza A (H1N1) outbreak. This was declared today, January 15th, by Algoma Public Health (APH).

Currently, there is no general visitation, yet we are making exceptions for essential and compassionate reasons.

SJGHEL would like to remind everyone there are several things that can be done to protect yourself and others from viruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
  • Ensure full immunization including booster doses for those who are eligible.
  • Wear a mask in public spaces and change it frequently.
  • If you are not feeling well, stay home and rest or contact your primary health care provider.
  • Observe social distancing and respiratory etiquette.
  • Reduce indoor air pollution via adequate ventilation where possible.

Secondly, it has been confirmed by APH, that the Acute Respiratory Illness (ARI), outbreak at the Camillus Centre is Influenza A (H1N1).

With the Influenza virus on the rise in our community please take the above noted precautions. To book your flu shot, please contact your pharmacy, Algoma Public Health at: 705-541-7370, or contact your family health care provider to book an appointment.
