Huron Shores waste disposal site accepting bulk items, brush

Landfill site for Ward 2 transitioned to transfer station as part of a 3-month pilot program

HURON SHORES – The Municipality of Huron Shores has announced that its Ward 2 Waste Disposal Site at 473 Cullis Rd. will now be accepting bulk items and brush.

"The transfer bins, which have been a success, will continue to be in place," the municipality said in a news release. "We have carefully considered the concerns of our residents, and this new addition aims to further meet your needs."

Residents were asked to ensure that all materials are sorted appropriately before disposal.

The following motion was passed at the Aug. 14, 2024, Regular Council Meeting:

"WHEREAS the Ward 2 Landfill Site (473 Cullis Road) transitioned from a traditional landfill to a transfer station effective May 1st, 2024, as part of a 3-month Pilot Program;

AND WHEREAS the pilot program has come to an end, resulting in a cleaner site and requiring less operator time, demonstrating operational efficiency and environmental benefits;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council approves the continued placement of the additional 8 bins at the Ward 2 Transfer Station, with servicing to occur once per week;

AND THAT bulk items and brush continue to be accepted at the Ward 2 waste disposal site until such time as a decision is made on the recommendations of the Long-Term Waste Management Plan."
