The Municipality of Huron Shores announced yesterday that Mayor Matthew Seabrook has resigned effective then.
The municipal clerk formally received his resignation on Thursday.
In his letter, former mayor Seabrook said he resigned because he could, "no longer continue in the role with such strong disagreement to the majority vote of council."
Council will officially declare the office of the mayor vacant at its next meeting on Jan. 15, in accordance with the Municipal Act, 2001. Following this declaration, the process of filling the vacancy will begin in accordance with provincial requirements.
The municipality said in a news release it remains committed to serving residents without interruption during this transition and will provide further updates as decisions are made.
