BLIND RIVER — The Ontario Health Coalition is holding a public hearing to protect and improve local hospitals in Algoma, Blind River, and the North Shore of Lake Huron. Last year, there were more than 1,200 closures of vital hospital services across Ontario, but most communities have not had any real say in what is happening to their local public hospitals. This is an opportunity for residents to have their voices heard by a non-partisan expert panel including all three opposition parties. While the hearing will take place in-person in Blind River and online via Zoom, community members across the region are invited to share their stories and ideas. The input will help the expert panel create a report and concrete recommendations on the future of public hospitals with a focus on small and rural hospitals.

The expert panel includes:

  • Natalie Mehra, executive director of the Ontario Health Coalition
  • Brenda Scott, Chair of Small and Rural Hospital Committee with Ontario Health Coalition and Co-chair of Grey Bruce Health Coalition
  • France Gélinas, NDP Health Critic and MPP for Nickel Belt (Ontario New Democratic Party)
  • Adil Shamji, Liberal Health Critic and MPP for Don Valley East (Ontario Liberal Party)
  • Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario and MPP for Guelph (Green Party of Ontario)

The Coalition welcomes verbal and written submissions that are as informal or formal as you would like them to be. Everyone is welcome to attend.
