Hospital's general visitation policy resumes, effective immediately.

St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL) says it is reopening its visitation policy, effective immediately.

"We understand how difficult it has been for patients and their loved ones to be separated during hospital stays and we are committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for all," the hospital said in a news release.

While it is welcoming visitors back to the hospital, SJGHEL emphasized the importance of following safety protocols.

Visitors are required to always wear a mask while in the hospital and practice good hand hygiene. Visitors are also required to self-screen prior to visiting SJGHEL.

They are asked to refrain from visiting the hospital if they are feeling unwell.

It is suggested that they take a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) prior to visitation, the hospital added.

The hospital also asked that visitors limit their interactions with other patients and staff as much as possible to minimize the risk of infection.

General visitation will recommence between the hospital’s regular visitation hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.

Essential Care Partners (ECP) can continue to visit without restriction of visitation hours.

There is a limit of two visitors per patient including ECPs.

The hospital added that visitors play an important role in the recovery process, and "we are happy to have them back".

"We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we navigate this new process at SJGHEL."
