It was the first-ever Seniors' Showcase Saturday at Elliot Lake's Collins Hall on Hillside North. Judging from the hundreds of people on hand, it won't be the last.
Organizer Celia Sankar of the Diversity Canada Foundation said she was, "thrilled with the turnout," for the one-day event.
Admission was free and attendees were asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the Showcase, for donation to the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank.
Some of the visitors came looking for unique gifts and they found plenty to choose from. Many of the participants set up their tables in Collins Hall to demonstrate and explain the tools and techniques of their crafts or hobbies and display many of their creations.
On display were commercial products, beauty aids, knitting, sewing, handicrafts, clothing, model railways, wood turning, jewelry and precious metals, paintings and drawings, musicians, even a ship in a bottle.
Sponsors of the Elliot Lake Seniors' Showcase included the Diversity Canada Foundation, the City of Elliot Lake, Maplejobs and the Government of Canada.
