At city hall, Monday evening, council and citizens of Elliot Lake were informed of another generous donation received toward repairs at Elliot Lake’s Rogers Arena.
Providing a verbal overview of the staff report attached to the online council agenda package, Manager of Economic Development, Steve Antunes, said, “I feel like I'm in the very fortunate position that I get to do this again shortly after our last one.”
“We've seen such a swell of support in raising funds for the repair of the newly renamed Rogers Arena.”
'Supports come from community members, business partners, community partners'
“The supports come from community members, business partners, community partners, and the latest one that we have … Hydro One has stepped forth and has contacted the team to put forth a generous donation of $125,000.”
When the mayor opened the floor to council for comments or questions, Deputy Mayor Charles Flintoff was the first to comment.
“Just a comment. You know, the support for the arena project just keeps on coming and coming, and this is just amazing, and it's overwhelming, and it's definitely appreciated once again.”
“Thank you, Hydro!” Flintoff concluded.
Mayor Andrew Wannan commented, “It could be an offshoot of all the, you know, advertising and all the splashy news.” Then, as he looked over toward Flintoff with a smile, Wannan said, “and all of Councillor Flintoff's perfect interviews," and adding, "No, it's great for the community.”
The deputy mayor has frequently spoken on behalf of Elliot Lake this fall, including expressing gratitude for generous donations including this interview on CBC radio.
'A great thing for our community'
Wannan: “Thank you. I think we're all in agreement that it's a great thing for our community.”
