The City of Elliot Lake is closing the Elliot Lake Boat Launch and Boardwalk area on Highway 108 for approximately two weeks beginning on Monday, June 17.
"The new fishing pier will be arriving next week with installation over the next two weeks," Elliot Lake Economic Development Coordinator Ashten Vlahovich has told ElliotLakeToday. "The entire site will be closed to public use until completion of the pier installation to ensure adequate space for construction crews to work safely,"
Vlahovich continued, "Please respect the barriers, as the area will be an active construction site even when crews are not on site."
"One of the pre-fabricated sections of the pier arrived on site this week" Vlahovich said. "It's the first portion of Phase 2 of the project that will include the installation of the fully accessible floating 50 metre fishing pier. Once the pier is safely installed, the site will reopen to the public."
Periodic closures will re-occur as other elements are installed in the future such as shade structures, seating, lighting, and the same non-slip finishes as the existing boardwalk. More work will also continue throughout the summer months.
"The City appreciates the cooperation of the public with respect to the temporary closures and is looking forward to the completion of Phase 2 this summer that includes the fishing pier, boat launch docks and marina slip style docking," Vlahovich.
