St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL) says a recent COVID-19 outbreak that had affected the third floor of the hospital has concluded.

However SJGHEL's two other sites, St. Joe’s Manor and Camillus Centre, remain in outbreak and mandatory universal masking is still in place at all the sites, the hospital said in a release.

CEO Jeremy Stevenson expressed the hospital's gratitude to the entire SJGHEL community, "including our dedicated healthcare professionals, staff, patients, and their families, for their collective efforts in resolving this outbreak on the third floor of the hospital".

SJGHEL said as soon as the outbreak was identified last Thursday, it initiated infection control protocols, including isolating affected patients, and implementing testing and contact tracing.

To minimize the risk of further spread, the hospital intensified safety measures throughout the facility, including universal masking, stringent cleaning and disinfection procedures, and visitor restrictions.
