St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL) is pleased to announce that the COVID-19 outbreak on the first floor has officially been declared over today by Algoma Public Health (APH). As a result, normal visiting hours have resumed across all floors of the hospital.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the community, the staff, APH, and Outbreak Management Team (OMT) for their swift and effective response in addressing multiple outbreaks.

As a reminder, all staff, visitors, and patients are still required to wear a mask in the hospital, in accordance with our Universal Masking Policy. Masks are available at designated stations at each entrance. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.

The OMT would like to remind the public to take the following precautions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol-based sanitizer. Ensure full immunization, including booster doses for those eligible.
  • Wear masks in public spaces.
  • Stay home if unwell and contact your healthcare provider. Practice social distancing and respiratory etiquette.
  • Ensure proper ventilation in indoor spaces.

For more information on respiratory viruses, contact Algoma Public Health at 705- 942-4646 ext. 5404 or consult your healthcare provider. SJGHEL will provide updates as new information becomes available.
