St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake would like to inform the public that the recent COVID outbreak in the Camillus section of the Oaks Treatment Centre has officially been declared over by Algoma Public Health. As for our Continuing Care Unit, it remains in outbreak and visitation protocols remain in place, which are limited to essential care partners, and recommended only under compassionate circumstances.

SJGHEL has implemented a universal masking policy, requiring all staff, visitors, and patients to wear a mask while on the premises. The Oaks will also be following this policy, making masks mandatory for staff and visitors.

While clients are encouraged to wear masks, the centre will remain a mask-friendly environment where masking is highly recommended but not mandatory.

The hospital would like to remind everyone there are several things that can be done to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:

  • Wear a Mask: Always wear a mask in spaces where universal masking is a requirement, to help prevent the spread of the virus.
  • Practice Good Hand Hygiene: Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 15 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Stay Home if Unwell: If you feel unwell or exhibit symptoms such as a fever, cough, or shortness of breath, stay home and avoid contact with others. Seek medical advice if necessary.
