The Outbreak Management Team is urging the public to take precautions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. (see below)

Original story below:

St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake (SJGHEL) is notifying the public of a COVID-19 outbreak that was declared today by Algoma Public Health (APH) on the
first floor of the Continuing Care Unit (CCU) at the hospital. In response to this development, enhanced infection control measures are being implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and visitors. The hospital is working closely with APH to manage the situation and mitigate the spread of the virus.

Visitation to the first floor CCU is restricted to Essential Care Partners (ECPs) only. The Outbreak Management Team (OMT) strongly recommends limiting visits to
essential purposes and, if necessary, for compassionate reasons only. All visitors and patients that come into the hospital are required to wear a mask as per our Universal Masking policy, please make sure to put one on when you enter. Masking stations can
be found at each of the entrances.

OMT is urging the public to take the following precautions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol-based sanitizer.
  • Ensure full immunization, including booster doses for those eligible.
  • Wear masks in public spaces.
  • Stay home if unwell and contact your healthcare provider.
  • Practice social distancing and respiratory etiquette.
  • Ensure proper ventilation in indoor spaces.

For more information on respiratory viruses, contact Algoma Public Health at 705-942-4646 ext. 5404 or consult your healthcare provider. SJGHEL will provide updates as new information becomes available.
