Blind River council has received the first draft of a strategic plan that maps out ways the community should plan its future over the next five years.

Clerk Administrator Kathryn Scott supplied council, at its meeting Monday evening, with a brief report on the plan put together by Collins Barrow and Markey Consulting.

Scott outlined the work that was done leading up to the plan, which also includes an economic development strategy, being drafted.

“A comprehensive and innovative approach was taken by the consultants to engage the community to gather feedback from residents, both full-time residents and seasonal residents to ensure the community as a whole was reached for feedback,” Scott said in her report.

Along with the consultants, a steering committee of key members of the community worked to gather information and hold workshops to “discuss the outcomes of the information gathered.”

The process also included a public meeting earlier this year that attracted about 250 residents and surveys that were filled out by 450 people.

Scott suggested council support the plan and establish an advisory committee to keep residents informed and “ensure a connection to the strategic plan is followed.”

With the new council slated to be sworn in Dec. 3, the current council decided to receive the plan only and leave any final decisions on it to the new council.
