Elliot Lake city council has called a special meeting to discuss current urgent matters. The meeting will be held today, Wed. Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

The agenda includes:

6.1 Divisional Court Decision – C. Patrie

6.2 Centennial Arena – Targeted Wood Structure Repair

6.3 Physician Recruitment Efforts

6.4 2024 User Fees

6.5 Review of Legal/Integrity Commissioner Fees 2023

Two of the agenda items “may” be discussed in closed session. That does not prevent the council from providing some information to the public when they return to the council chamber after their closed session discussion. The items that “may be discussed in closed session” are 6.1 and 6.3.

Council’s discussions about the Divisional Court Decision – C. Patrie, may help inform the path forward regarding the council’s decision to appoint or call a by-election to fill the mayor’s seat.

The Centennial Arena – Targeted Wood Structure Repair, will be discussed in open session. The consultant, Wood Research and Development, has been evaluating the structure of the arena. Information about this may be presented, preparing the way for a council decision about the next step for the arena.

2024 User Fees were discussed at the Finance and Administration Standing Committee this past Monday. The committee has sent these to council for approval.  If approved at this meeting, the 2024 user fees for transit, recreation passes, rentals, and other municipally controlled matters, will become effective at the beginning of the new year.

The Review of Legal / Integrity Commissioner Fees 2023 is an updated report of costs related to the Integrity Commissioner’s work this past year. A similar report was delivered last year, October 11, 2022. It is on the city website here.

Members of the public who wish to speak during the Public Input Session are required to contact the Municipal Clerk before noon at [email protected]

Citizens have up to two minutes to speak to an agenda item.

Council meetings are normally livestreamed here.
