With the deadline fast approaching to submit an application to the government for funding for the multi use complex, council held a special meeting on Dec. 18 to review a new report submitted by the Director of Community Services Wendy Rowland.
At last week's meeting, council asked for the financial report numbers be more specific after more reductions of the square footage of the complex.
The deadline for the grant application is Jan. 15 and the total cost of the complex would be just shy of $40 million.
The site chosen is the Centennial Arena site and at last week's meeting, council didn't feel comfortable submitting an application for a grant to the government without final numbers on revenue, expenses and wages. Rowland and her team sat down and analyzed more in depth the report and came up with the final cost of the complex.
To help reduce the cost of the complex, council asked Rowland to analyze the numbers concerning the new wellness centre. At the beginning, the wellness centre was 7,204 square feet and will now be reduced to 5,000 square feet, reducing the cost by $600,000.
With the city looking at providing the community with a multi-plex centre to host the municipal pool, a hockey rink and a curling club with meeting rooms, the city is looking at saving around $400,000 in operating costs for the buildings that are currently hosting these activities.
The cost analysis from the single staff report was turned down for discussion at the meeting.
The next council meeting is Jan. 8.
