SUDBURY - Canadian Blood Services (CBS) is hoping people in Sudbury and across the north join the new 450 challenge. This is to signify the need for 450 new donors for each and every day this winter.

"Right now, there are about 230 new donors a day across the country. To meet the growing need for blood and plasma, we need to double the number of new donors," said a news release from CBS.

"To keep pace with patient need in Sudbury and across the country, we need 450 new donors a day to join Canada’s Lifeline. This isn’t just about today. This is about the future. We can’t delay finding more donors; we are falling short now and need new people to join the movement," the news release continued.

Canadian Blood Services has created a daily tracker that people can use to get a sense of the continuing need for donors.

"Every day this tracker will show how many new donors across the country have booked appointments to donate. We are calling on people in Sudbury to book a donation this winter to help ensure that patients in Sudbury and nationwide always have access to lifesaving blood and plasma. By donating plasma, people in Sudbury are joining a community committed to saving lives," said the release.

Any time is a good time to become part of the 450. Visit blood.ca, download the GiveBlood app, or call 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283) to book an appointment this winter.

Most Canadians can donate blood or plasma, but for those who cannot, one can still support Canadian Blood Services. Information is available on the website to let people know how they can provide financial donations.
