On Tuesday, the City of Elliot Lake held its annual Civic Award and Volunteer Recognition banquet at the Renaissance Active Living Centre.
This year's Civic Award winner was long-time Elliot Laker Bryan MacKay!
Bryan has been an integral member of Elliot Lake Minor and Major Hockey for 50 years. He is a great leader, teacher, and most of all an incredible coach. He has dedicated himself as a positive influence to the children in our community.
As head coach of Elliot Lake Minor Hockey and head coach of Elliot Lake Major Hockey, Bryan ran practices, and coached games in and out of town along with tournaments. Bryan is more than a coach, simply put, Bryan teaches his players the rules of the game, the strategies applied for success, and the fundamental skills necessary to play. He instills positive values like hard work, dedication, teamwork, accountability, and respect to each and every one of his players. He endeavours to improve his players both on the ice as hockey players and off the ice as human beings.
Bryan's service is all out of the love for children and hockey. He loves the sport and the sportsmanship/friendships that are created from it. He has done it for years and expects nothing in return. He takes pride in watching his players grow and helping shape them for the future.
This may be Bryan's final year coaching after 50 years of dedication to the sport of hockey, the children, and the community.

Also recognized during the night were the volunteers and members of various boards and city committees that help make Elliot Lake as special as it can be. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and continues to volunteer their time to help improve Elliot Lake in a way that only you can.
