Service honouring veterans returns after a year's hiatus due to COVID

Blind River Legion Branch 189 held its Remembrance Day service today with a large crowd assembled in cool and gusty weather.

Held at the cenotaph by the river, the event honoured veterans of the two world wars, the Korean War and those who served in the recent Afghanistan conflict.

Soldiers who died in the conflicts and those who returned home were remembered through prayer, the lowering and raising of the Canadian flag, wreath-laying, two minutes of silence, the piping of The Last Post and reading of In Flanders Fields.

The service was cancelled last year due to COVID restrictions and this year’s event followed current pandemic protocols.
