Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman is running to be re-elected to the mayor’s seat in the October municipal election.

She is the first candidate to file nomination papers for the election in Blind River. The papers were filed yesterday, Hagman confirmed.

The filing was confirmed by town CAO-Clerk Katie Scott.

“So far, we have received Sally Hagman’s papers for the office of mayor,” Scott said in an email to ElliotLakeToday.

Hagman handily won the seat in the 2018 municipal election, defeating long-time councillor and two-term mayor Sue Jensen. In that election, she garnered 858 votes over incumbent mayor Jensen’s 229 votes and mayoral candidate Alex Solomon’s 456 votes.

For the long-time Blind River resident, it was the first time she campaigned for a seat on council.

“We will have the list of people who file updated daily on our website,” Scott told voters.

All indications are that most of the present councillors are expected to seek re-election.

The election will be held on Oct. 24. The last day to file nomination papers is Aug. 19. It will also include those seeking a post on the different school boards.

Elliot Lake Today will be posting news on the candidates after the June provincial election.
