A spring cleaning drive is taking place in Blind River on Wednesday, May 18, Mayor Sally Hagman said in her public address at Monday evening’s virtual council meeting.
She urges residents to the meet at the town park at 6:30 p.m. to get garbage bags donated by Cameco Corporation.
“Special thanks to Bailey Mitchell and the students at Ecole St. Joseph for organizing this community cleanup project,” she said.
In other community news, the mayor announced that the Tim’s for Good (Tim Hortons Blind River) nominated the town’s Public Works and Parks & Recreation Departments to be the recipient of their award.
“This recognition is for workers, who make a difference in the community, and these two departments certainly deserve this award,” Mayor Hagman said. “They are out working in all the elements, keeping our roads and sidewalks clear in the winter and now out getting our community spring and summer ready. They did not shut down during COVID and they showed each day as their services were relied upon. Congratulations on this well-deserved award.”
The mayor also acknowledged Blind River is busy building.
“The new docks have arrived at the marina and they are being installed. The old docks will be travelling to Lake Matinenda to provide more spaces for cottagers and visitors."
“Last but certainly not least, we continue to pray for everyone in Ukraine and hope that this war ends quickly,” she said at the end of her remarks.
