A three-goal night from Owen King was part of a lopsided 9-1 triumph by the Blind River Beavers over the Espanola Paper Kings in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday at the Blind River Community Centre.
The Beavers bagged the night’s initial tally six and a half minutes in when Jack Kruiderink chipped a Nicholas MacIsaac pass by a defender then went in a ripped a shot past Paper Kings’ starter Connor Hatfield.
Building on that, Blind River pumped in a couple more markers to extend their early cushion.
On their second goal, Shea Crewson benefitted from a turnover and snapped by the blocker of Hatfield from between the circles.
Converting on a man advantage, Keenan Conn made it 3-0 as a bouncing puck clipped off of him and found its way into the net.
That resulted in Espanola making a goaltending chance as Jack Helkie entered for the visitors.
Action in the second stanza saw King rip a shot upstairs from the right circle to put the Beavers up by four at 3:36.
That gives King point in seven straight games.
Adding another, YiBin Yoo darted into the Paper Kings end and sent a sizzler by the blocker of Helkie, before King notched another to make it 6-0.
Wrapping up the home ice victory in the third, Kruiderink tucked in a backhand in the first minute.
King then completed his hat trick before Espanola’s Jason Galante put an end to the shutout bid of Connor Dunham-Fox with under five minutes to play as he raced in alone on a breakaway and snapped in a shot high glove side.
Another from Crewson then capped off the scoring for the home side.
With a fifth straight victory, the Beavers raise their record to 21-9-1-1.
In defeat, the Paper Kings fell to 9-18-2-1.
