Blind River residents can expect to maybe see witches on the streets leading up to the annual Witches Dance that will take place in October.
The Witches Dance is a popular event held in conjunction with the fall celebration in the town and showcases witches dancing along the main business street and at local nursing homes as local vendors display and sell their good.
Mayor Sally Hagman in her remarks at Tuesday evening’s council meeting reminded residents that they may see a witch during downtown shopping or touring.
“I have it on good authority that there will be a witch creeping around Blind River this Friday and for next three Fridays in September,” she said. “If you happen to spot this creature, be sure to note the time and place. . And, of course, there will be prizes of indescribable value for spotting the witch. It’s all part of the build-up to the Witches Dance in October.”
Organized by Kristy Blanchet, the dance has grown over its five-year history and last year featured about 30 witches taking part. They train throughout the year for the event described as exercise and fun. Blanchet has always hoped to get enough men involved to include a Warlock Dance, maybe this year that will happen.
The Witches Dance and fall fair will take place on October 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will feature a vendors’ market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and kid’s games from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
