Algoma Public Health has reported five new cases of COVID-19 this evening.
According to the health unit, four are from central and east Algoma and one is from the Sault area.
This brings the total number of active cases in the Algoma area to 15, three of which are non-Algoma residents temporarily in the area. There have been 44 positive cases reported in the central and east Algoma area and 151 in the Sault area since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To date, APH has confirmed 213 cases and 198 of those have been resolved.
APH has also declared an outbreak at Central Algoma Secondary School (CASS). This is the first outbreak of COVID-19 declared at an Algoma-area school.
An outbreak is declared in a school setting when two or more cases are linked and occur within 14 days of each other, and at least one case could've acquired infection at the school.
Grades 9-12 have switched over to virtual learning as of Monday March 15 but the school’s elementary levels (JK-6) and the intermediate levels (7-8) are permitted to remain open for in-person learning.
