Blind River council has approved re-opening of its boat launches with the exception of the marina boat launch that will remain closed.
The decision was made at a special council meeting Friday, May 8 and endorsed by all of council with the exception of one councillor who opposed it.
The provincial government, as part of its emergency measures to stop the risk of the spreading of the COVID-19 virus, announced the closure of all municipal boat launches on March 30. Blind River supported the closure with barricades set up at the marina and river boat launches while making the closures public with signs at other boat launches.
Mayor Sally Hagman responded to the re-opening in an email with ElliotLakeToday.
“The marina boat launch continues to be closed until the provincial order has been lifted. All other boat launches are now open including the one at the Town on the Blind River, the West side of Lake Lauzon, Matinenda, etc.,” she said.
Earlier this month she urged non permanent residents to stay home.
“We welcome non residents as long as they respect the provincial emergency order,” she said today.
“Everyone knows about social distancing and we trust that they will continue to respect what the premier (Doug Ford) and prime minister (Justin Trudeau) have instructed us to do.”
