BLIND RIVER – A Sault Ste. Marie driver was arrested and charged after motorists reported erratic driving on the highway near Blind River.
On Wednesday at around 7:45 p.m., the East Algoma OPP say they received an impaired driving complaint regarding a black pickup truck on Highway 17.
Police said this included "very" inconsistent speeds, passing dangerously and following too close.
Police stopped the pickup and spoke to the driver, who exhibited "considerable signs of impairment", according to a police news release.
Police say the driver was arrested and assessed by an OPP drug recognition evaluator. The vehicle was towed and impounded.
Matthew Beaumont, 36, from Sault Ste. Marie is charged with operation of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs.
He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 6.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Beaumont is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
