Teachers employed by Grand Nord board have a new contract

Ratification of the new deal is expected to take place by mid-April

Unionized teachers employed by Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord have reached a new three-year tentative agreement with the board, retroactive to September of 2022.

The teachers are members of OSSTF/FEESO (Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation/Federation Des Enseignantes-Enseignants Des Ecoles Secondaires De L'Ontario).

“The proposed agreement will enable both parties to continue offering quality services within our schools,” said Conseil scolaire board chair Anne-Marie Gelineault, in a press release.

"By working in partnership with our employees, we offer a harmonious learning environment for our students and contribute to the success of our schools.”

Both sides are expected to ratify the new agreement within the next few weeks, said the release.

Conseil scolarie du Grand Nord, which is recognized for its keen sense of innovation and openness, is able to offer high-quality French language education in 15 elementary schools and eight secondary schools across Northern Ontario, the release said. 

This includes the communities of Greater Sudbury, Markstay, Noelville, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Dubreuilville, Marathon, Manitouwadge, Longlac and Thunder Bay, said the release.
