A Sunday morning ceremony commemorating the National Day of Mourning was announced at the Elliot Lake council meeting, last Monday.

Mayor Andrew Wannan invited the public to, “Please join us in the recognition of the National Day of Mourning, this Sunday, April 28th.”

“Everyone is welcome at our 10:30 a.m. ceremony at the Miners Memorial Park, while we remember all those who have died, been injured, or suffered illness in the workplace.”

“This year, we induct five new names to our memorial walls in honour of their sacrifices in the Elliot Lake uranium mines.”

“Join us this Sunday as we remember these workers and all others affected, and as we commit to preventing further workplace tragedies.”
